the editions from 1977 to 1996 offers professionals in the field of
ophthalmic prosthetics with a single-source reference to the
professional literature of the field during that period. Produced in
cooperation with the American Society of Ocularists, this high-quality,
reprint edition contains all professional articles contained in the
original journal issues, as well as an index of articles arranged by
subject areas. The Journal of the American Society of
Ocularists published articles containing clinical and research
information for professionals in the field of ophthalmic prosthetics.
The primary emphasis was on ocularistry—the science, art, and craft of
making artificial eyes. Additional areas of interest included articles
from related professions involved in the goal of rehabilitating the
anophthlmic patient, including ophthalmic plastic surgery, patient
counseling, anaplastology, and optics.
The Journal of the American
Society of Ocularists was published from 1972 to 1996. From 1972 to
1980 it was known as Todays Ocularist. A limited number of full
sets of the original 6 x 9 Todays Ocularist (1972-1976) are also
available, please see page 4 for additional details. In 1980, the name
of the journal was changed to The Journal of the American
Society of Ocularists. In 1996 The Journal of the American
Society of Ocularists was replaced by the Journal of Ophthalmic
Prosthetics, published by ABI Professional Publications.
